Mariah's new outfit

Today I would like to introduce you to Mariah, my first Springfield girl.

Shes about a year old and was originally a Maria (I think... it was a while ago and as she's wigged and I redid her makeup, I'm not 100% sure). I was on a real customizing spree at the time, which is why I did all that to her. She was wearing a brown wig with bangs up until recently, when I realized this Volks wig fit her perfectly... I'll have to keep this in mind in case I ever luck out and find one of these girls used for a good price (and their hair is unsaveable).

I have to admit, shes my little mini-me, I'm glad she was my first girl (even if it took me so long to finally get one!). Your never too old for dolls, as the saying goes. I think I want to try and add more blush to her face and maybe redo her lips (as I think they are too light and the top is crooked ><). But all in all I really love her! People really don't give these dolls enough credit for their cuteness.

I recently made Mariah an outfit out of a shirt and jeans of mine that were not even worth giving to the Salvation Army... but the pieces I salvaged came out ok!

Both patterns came from Liberty Jane,  they were the trendy top pattern and the leggings pattern (that for some reason always looks a little baggy... maybe I need to adjust my printer settings).

Here is how it looks on my girl:

The bow looks better on the shirt when it's laying down, which is kind of a shame, but ah well...

I even tried my hand at making her some sandals out of felt and foam. I've been wanting to try to make doll shoes for years now and I barely tried them now... I just sort of winged it, but next time I will try it with a pattern.

Thank you for reading!

  1. Mariah is beautiful! I agree that the wig fits her perfectly. I'm not familiar with Volks wigs, where do they come from? The top is trendy and stylish. I always have trouble stitching knit fabrics, but you seem to have mastered it. I had to laugh when you said the bow looked better when the shirt was laying down. I have made SO MANY outfits for dolls that have turned out that way. It's reassuring to me to see that it happens to other people too. I really appreciate you sharing that little tidbit.

I've never made Liberty Jane patterns but I hear really good things about them. If they don't sew up to fit your Springfield Girls as closely as you'd like, you can try to print them at 90% or 95% of their original size. Springfield dolls are a smidge more narrow than AG dolls and if your patterns can be printed out, it's a small matter to shrink them slightly before printing them. That said, I think the jeans look good, they don't seem too big to me.

Loving the shoes, BTW, they turned out great, even without a pattern. I've made felt shoes for other dolls, but never for 18" dolls.

I'd love to read about how you do the face paint and change that up. I've never felt brave enough to alter the face paint on a doll before and love to read how you go about it.

Isn't it cool to have a Mini-Me doll. I'm still working on mine. Can't figure out which color hair to use, but eventually it will come to me.

Oh, and did you know that Mariah (or Moriah) means "chosen by God"? Pretty cool huh? At least I thought it was.

These are great. I'm really digging your stuff!

    1. Thank you so much! Volks is a Japanese doll making company that is getting more and more expensive. I don't think I would have bought the wig now, but I'm glad I had it for her. I'm glad as well that I'm not the only one with that problem with adding accessories to clothing. Better luck to both of us on that in the future! ^_^

Thank you so much for the resizing advice! I would have never known about the different sizing.

Hopefully I can find a SC girl who needs some TLC to do another face paint... not sure when I'll want to redo a brand new girl any time soon. I can't wait to see your mini-me! And wow, I didn't know the meaning of her name- thank you for sharing that with me!

I'm really glad your enjoying the blog so far! :D

  2. You really are fond of Mariah! And I think it’s a good thing that you customized her yourself because it somehow made it more apparent that she truly is your own. The outfit you’ve made looks amazing on her. You really know what outfit would make your doll stand out!
